🌴 Coastal Views & Conference Days: Stephon's SoCal Stopover

In October 2024, Stephon took a work trip that turned into a mini adventure through Southern California. He split his time between Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas and the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE — a pairing that gave him a taste of both chill coastal vibes and bustling downtown energy.

Here’s his take on a trip where the agenda was business, but the scenery definitely stole the show.

🏞️ Trip Highlights

  • Cruising the PCH: Few things beat the drive down Pacific Coast Highway — ocean views, sunshine, and that feeling of freedom.

  • Pelican Hill Golf Course: Even as a non-player, Stephon scored a $50 day pass just to ride along in a golf cart and soak in the views (honestly, genius).

  • L.A. Observatory: A standout moment. Classic for a reason. The hike, the view, and that photo opp with the Hollywood sign? Chef’s kiss.

🍽️ Foodie Finds

  • Crystal Cove Shake Shack (Newport): Yes, this retro roadside spot lives up to the hype — ocean views and great burgers.

  • Fixins Soul Kitchen (L.A.): Southern comfort food in downtown LA that hit just right after a long day.

💡 Insider Notes

  • No car? Plan ahead. Staying at Marriott Newport Coast Villas was gorgeous, but rideshares can get pricey and long if you’re heading out for breakfast or quick meals. Renting a car might be worth it.

  • L.A. Parking = Wild. Stephon grabbed a Mini Cooper rental for just $38 through the Hertz at JW Marriott — clutch move — but parking at places like the Observatory was a battle. Street spots at the top are limited, so wear comfy shoes or get ready to wait.

  • Public transportation? Not it. In LA, you’re often better off renting or budgeting for rideshares if time matters.

😄 Little Moments

  • Golf cart joyrides: Hanging out at the Pelican Hill Golf Course without golfing? Totally possible. Stephon tagged along with friends on a non-player pass and says it’s totally worth it for the coastal views.

  • Friendly faces: The Pelican Hill Grill staff went above and beyond — great food, even better vibes.

🌇 Final Thoughts

“Would go back.”

Short and sweet from Stephon. While work took up most of his time, the mix of beach relaxation and L.A. city exploration left him wanting a longer, more planned return trip.

🧳 Travel Tools He Loved

  • Amex Car Rental Privileges: Helped land that budget-friendly Mini Cooper rental. If you’re a cardholder, check your perks before you book!

That wraps Stephon’s SoCal edition!
Whether you're heading to L.A. for work or weaving in a quick escape to the coast, this trip proves you don’t have to choose between business and beauty — sometimes, you can have both.
